2005 Hosts - Tom Joyner & Donna
Richardson
Tom Joyner
Founder of the Tom Joyner Foundation, BlackAmericaWeb.com, and host
of the nationally syndicated Tom Joyner Morning Show, Tom Joyner
Sr., is considered one of the most influential, inspirational, and
dynamic personalities in the country.
From small, southern Tuskegee, Alabama, this 1999 Radio Hall of
Fame inductee has ignited a sense of pride in the hearts of seven
million listeners in more than 120 radio markets, instilling in
us the significance of unity and giving back to one's community.
He and members of his crew have prompted major companies to stop
discriminating against African Americans and Hispanics in advertising
and are in the trenches raising health awareness among African Americans.
But Joyner doesn't stop there.
His Tom Joyner Foundation, a charitable, non-profit organization,
was started in 1997 for the sake of African American students in
need at Historically Black Colleges and Universities across the
nation. The foundation has raised more than $12 million to date
for this single cause.
In the mid-1980's Joyner made his claim to fame when he accepted
simultaneous positions as "morning drive man' at Dallas' KKDA
and "afternoon drive man" at Chicago's WGCI. Flying everyday
between the two cities to work eventually earned him national recognition,
the name "Fly Jock," seven million frequent flyer miles,
syndication and undoubtedly, the largest audience of any urban radio
program.
Joyner's success as a radio personality and philanthropist has earned
him several awards and honors.
This national pacesetter resides in Dallas with his wife, Donna.
Joyner has two sons, Thomas Jr., who is the chief executive officer
of the Tom Joyner Foundation, and Oscar, who is the vice-chair for
Joyner's BlackAmericaWeb.com
Donna Richardson
Donna grew up participating in dance and sports since age 5. Having
always been an athletic person, going into the fitness field was
a good challenge. A friend challenged her to take her aerobics class,
and Donna could not back down. After training and becoming certified,
she began teaching at Bally’s and other health clubs.
She enjoyed teaching so much that in time she opened a fitness studio
and produced her first exercise video. In 1992 her career veered
into a totally new direction when she joined ESPN as co-host of
the ESPN Fitness Pros show. With Nike’s endorsement, she co-starred
in her first commercial fitness videotape.
She is a big believer in prevention. “We should establish
some balance in our lives,” she says. “We must take
care of the temple. In spite of what the marketing says, we must
be healthy inside out.”
She is recognized as one of the premier fitness "gurus"
in the world. Richardson has starred in more than 25 award-winning
exercise videos. Her newly released video “Sweating in the
Spirit” is the number 1 video in the country. Recently Donna
broke the Guinness Book of World Record for Line Dancing with 50,017
participants. She’s Executive Producer and Host of the “Donna
Richardson Show” Mind, Body and Spirit on TV-ONE Network and
“The Sweating in the Spirit Show” on the Word Network.
Donna is a National Spokesperson for McDonalds “Go Active
Program”.
She is on a national tour with her health initiative campaign “Fighting
Obesity”. She is the Co-founder for Girlfriends' Coffee Talk
Foundation, an organization dedicated to promoting literacy and
wellness. She was voted as one of the "Top 10 Movers and Shakers
in the Fitness Industry" by Fitness magazine in 1996. That
same year, she was selected as one of the "Top 5 Fitness Video
Instructors" by the "Oprah Winfrey Show”.
Today she is happily married to Tom Joyner.
